Tuesday Tales

In advance I apologize for the length of the scene from my WIP, Red Queen. It’s just that it took me this long to get to the prompt without destroying the scene. I’ll try to do better next week but can’t guarantee I will since it’s the story that is important. Anyways, enough with the excuses, here’s my word prompt scene-

Word prompt- dog

After leaving Valbonne Jessica called John to meet them in the house. She then checked in with Collette and Paschal to see if they’d heard anything and let them know John was on his way over. When asked if she wanted John brought up to speed she had told Paschal yes, since it would save time.

Walking into her chateau the smells wafting from the kitchen signaled a meal, guaranteed to fill and fortify, was in the process of being prepared. What did appear unusual was the calm voices, Collette’s and John’s, emanating from the room.

“Guess she’s finally warmed up to him,” Jessica whispered to Ronny.

“Yeah and whatever they’re cooking is making me hungry.”

“When aren’t you? Oh yeah, when we’re making love which reminds me you’re shut off for the next few days. If you get my drift.”

She smiled back at him when he groaned.

“Let’s get John and see if we can locate the building where Martina and Toby are being held,” she said, pushing through the kitchen door.

“Hey guys,” John said on seeing them enter. “I’m up to speed so what do we need to do know?”

“Okay, here’s what we’ve got that’s new. We were able to find a witness whom the police never interviewed. Got a description of the car, turns out the Royce is Rolls-Royce and the man that took them bears a resemblance to this Mr. Boris. Even got the license plate which I’m going to run through the French database to see if we can get a location of the owner.”

“Good, then let’s get to it,” John replied then followed Jessica and Ronny out and to her office.

Once she inputted the marker number into the system it didn’t take long to get the results.

“Here we go,” she started, “the plate is tagged to a 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II owned by a Mr. Boris, seems he doesn’t have a last name according to the records.”

She looked over the top of the monitor, “Got his address, you ready for it?”

“Give me a second,” was all he said as he typed in commands which connected the computer to a government GPS satellite. Who’s none of them knew or cared as long as they got real time imagery of the target.

“Connected.”

While Jessica read off the address of the man they were hunting Ronny put it in and seconds later the house came into view.

“Got it boss. Looks like an old chateau, lots of rooms, three floors. Good news,” he was about to continue when he felt Jessica’s his shoulder.

“No kidding that’s good. This guy may be diamond smart but not security smart. Woods almost right up to the building and it looks like everything is well maintained,” she uttered.

“That’s because this guy’s got motion sensors along the wood line,” John started then pointed to a spot on the screen, “can you zoom in there?”

Ronny did as asked.

“John, isn’t that a listening device,” Jessica asked, surprise tainting her words.

“Yep. We used them when I was in the SAS until someone found a way around them. Seems they become inert when you blow a dog whistle. The ultrasound frequency somehow it scrambles the electronics.

Wonderful bit of writing. I enjoy a longer bit of story, it gives us more detail and tone, I think.

I agree with Vicki. Sometimes the short excerpts just don’t provide enough information. I enjoyed this, thanks for posting!

This short scene provided us with a lot of information. I can’t wait to see how they get around the sensors and listening devices. Another great post.
