Tuesday Tales

Word prompt- tight

This week we’re back with another scene from my WIP, Rodeo Queen the fourth book in the Jessica Sales Novel series.

“Never thought I’d see the day when John would pass out. Then again that’s got to be at least a hundred-fifty proof moonshine he slugged down,” Jessica told Ronny as he joined her by the barn.

“No kidding. Bet when he wakes up he’s going to have one hell of a hangover. Ready to see what we can find out about who was spying on us?”

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????“Got the horses saddle and they’re in their stalls,” she said turning and heading to the barn.

A minute later they led their mounts out, Jessica with a sorrel while she’d given him a grey.

“Don’t worry Earl is honest. All you have to do is sit there and let him have his head. Since you haven’t ridden as much as I have, or had, I figured he’d be the best choice for you.”

“Thanks. I can’t remember the last time I rode so thanks for thinking of my safety.”

Jessica started to tighten the girth on her her horse when she saw him start to get ready to climb into the saddle.

“No,” she almost screamed. “Did you check to see if the girth is tight. I only cinched it enough to keep the saddle on.”

“Ah, sorry. No I didn’t. Shows you how much I remember, like almost nothing.”

Jessica waited until he checked and tightened the girth then climbed onto the back of her horse. After he got settled in the saddle she gave him a confident smile, which was sort of returned. She almost regretted using the horses instead of the quad seeing how uncomfortable he looked.

“Ronny, I’ve got an idea. We already know whoever it was spying on us is long gone, so time’s not important, let’s start out in the corral, that way you can get the feel of riding again. We’ll keep it to a walk and jog,” she suggested, not wanting to hurt his male ego.

Next week there won’t be Tuesday Tales, we’ll be back on April 1st.

That moonshine will do nasty things to a person. Nice use of the prompt!

  2. Sarah Cass says:

HEhe…good she’s respectful of his manhood…but I can imagine it would be intimidating getting back on ahorse after being off for a long time.

  3. Sue says:

Very considerate of her and yes good use of prompt

  4. Tricia says:

The interaction together is great. She is so patient with him and refuses to hurt his ego while he’s pretty embarrassed about not remembering anything. Great job!

Lindsay, I agree with Tricia. I love seeing the softer side of Jessica.

I agree, seeing the softer side of Jessica is fascinating.

I love that she’s sensitive to his male pride. Makes their bond believable. I love this pair.
