Tuesday Tales

Before we get to this weeks scene from my WIP, Red Queen, please let’s take a moment to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. Let’s also not forget the brave servicewomen and men who protect us so we can write.

As a WIP there will be mistakes so please discount then.

Word prompt- mountain

Jessica watched as the prisoner was deposited in the police van before, with a smile turned back to her compatriots.

“I don’t know about you three but all this excitement put me in the mood for a nice chardonnay. Who’s with me?”

“Don’t have to twist my arm,” Martina said, as she grabbed her husband by the arm. “Then we can get back to the important things in life, like shopping.”

“No kidding. Anything to avoid the mountain of paperwork I’ll have waiting when we get home.”

They all knew she was referring to the reports she’d have to fill out for not only the local police but The Consortium. Those were going to be the most in-depth, including but not limited to how she’d known one of the subject. At least she wouldn’t have to file a “firearm use” form and since there wasn’t a “knife use” form, for now, there wasn’t any need to mention it.

Jessica linked arms with Ronny and led everyone to a near-by bistro.

After taking seats and placing their orders Ronny leaned closer to Jessica, not wanting to disturb the other guests at surrounding tables.

“Think we be seeing Blaise and Frédéric again?”

“You can bank on it. At least you and I will because they got a good look at us but I feel sure you two,” she said glancing over to her friends, “are safe.

Martina turned and looked into her husband’s eyes and saw the same thing she felt.

“Not,” she announced emphatically, “as long as you’re both in danger then we are. I know it sounds corny but ‘one for all and all for one’.”

As much as she didn’t want to Jessica laughed at the reference to the Three Musketeers. “Okay, I guess you’re right but what are we going to do about it.”

Toby picked up his wine glass, took a sip while studying the others at the table. “Don’t go shopping for a new outfit…”

Before he could continue the two women started to abrade him, which included using verbiage he hadn’t heard since basic training. And those references were typically directed to his parentage.

    Very enjoyable snippet!

Nice upbeat tale between the two couples. Funny how even fictional characters procrastinate over a glass of chardonnay.

Loved the interplay between the friends while you maintained the serious thread for the future in the background.

Love the downtime they all have together and the humor at the end though there is a thread of tension and mystery still running through the scene. Perfect. Love this story!
