Tuesday Tales

Once again we’re returning to my WIP Rodeo Queen, Book Four in A Jessica Sales Novel. This book is scheduled for release in March 2014.

The prompt this week is hand.

“Let me throw this out as a wild card. We think he might be wanting to set off some kind of bomb at the Houston rodeo, right?” Shay said the paused waiting for a response.

“That would fit into his profile,” Jessica answered. “Why? Do you think it could be something else?”

“Like I said this is a really long shot, but what if he’s bringing in a time bomb in the form of infected stock. Then when people go home they spread the disease to others.”

She watched the faces on her friends go white with fear from what she’d just told them.

“Crap Shay, when you think outside the box you really go all the way,” John said, giving her a hung.

“That’s one hell of a wild card idea and definitely doable. The only problem is how can we find out which animals are infected and with what,” Martina uttered.

“Not to mention, will they be carrying the disease when they arrive or will Grey inject them at the rodeo,” Toby declared.

Since she was the only one here, except for Jessica, with rodeo experience Shay figured the answer to his question would come from her. She leaned back against John to get comfort from his strength while she analyzed the question and her response.

From past experience she knew all the stock had to be vetted prior to entering the grounds, then the owners had to present proof of vaccinations.

But what if, she thought to herself, a vet had a hand in allowing a few infected stock through. Depending on the disease the animal carried it would only take three or four, maybe one in each of the events.

Twisting her head around so she could look into John’s beautiful brown eyes then back to the others, a knowing smile on her lips.

“I know how Justin is going to do it but we need specific information from George, but first we need intercept the email Grey is probably going to send the ARA. Right now protecting his reputation is paramount. Since we’ve got over a week before Houston we can handle Grey later,” Shay announced.

Excellent! Great writing & sounds like you’re very knowledable about the whole process, many details I wouldn’t have a clue about.

    A very intriguing scene.

  10. Sherry Gloag says:

Very plausible, there were reports on the national news that during the foot & mouth epidemic in the UK a few years ago several people were accused of deliberately spreading the infection so more farmers could claim for compensation. Great tale.
