Tuesday Tales

This is the possible start of a new WIP so please forgive any mistakes you might find. I haven’t decided if I’m going to continue with it or not.

With a final glance at her computer screen she turned it off, rose from her chair and collected her cellphone. Under normal circumstances she wouldn’t have worried but this was far from ordinary. Turning back she thought briefly about rebooting it up when her cellphone rang.

Before answering she looked at the caller ID to see if it could be her fiancée but it wasn’t which worried her even more. The number wasn’t familiar but with him missing she risked answering it.

“Hello. Who’s this?”

“Who I am doesn’t matter. All that does is, if you want to see Roger alive you’d better do as you’re told,” the voice said.

When she heard “Roger” and “alive” Savannah could feel bile welling up from her stomach and into her throat.

“What do you want?” she barely got out. Something told her this wasn’t your ordinary kidnapping but somewhat bigger.

“You know what we want. The file you both collected on Ahmed,” the voice demanded.

This time she was able to detect a slight middle east accent mixed with British thus giving her the impression the man was well educated. Of course, this didn’t matter as much as how he’d learned of the information. It and everything involved in the reports had been classified Top Secret, Your Eyes Only. Not even their assistant had seen it as only the highest level of people in the agency were privy to it.

“Sorry but I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied after a few seconds.

Savannah prayed that would buy her a little time to find out who this man was and where the leak in the organization was.

“That excuse won’t work with me. My source is impeccable. Now, you have one hour to collect the documents and all related data, including flash drives. You’re then to take everything to the train station and put it into locker 565. After you’ve done that you’ll be contacted with instructions on where to find Roger. Failure to comply will result in his death and I can assure you it won’t be a pleasant one.”

Savannah could tell from the hardness in his voice this man meant every word. Her biggest problem, how to get the folder out of the agency without anyone knowing.
