Tuesday Tales

Before we start, let’s take a moment to remember those in Oklahoma who lost loved ones, homes, businesses etc over the past few days.

Welcome back for another Tuesday Tales, each written to the same word prompt. This week it’s bite.

I’m returning to my romantic fantasy WIP, Return of Queen Sala. This is from the opening to Chapter 6 which was the hardest one to write so far. There’s so much information the reader needs to learn, not only about Sallie Ann aka Queen Sala but the land of Islana. Unfortunately, you’re only getting the tiniest part of it, not to mention exactly who the people of Islana truly are. For that you’ll have to wait until the book is sold, edited and released.

As in the past forgive any errors or mistakes you might come across.

So, without further ado or don’t my scene for this week-

steakWith a last bite of steak Sallie Ann raised her wine glass, took a sip then over its rim glanced to her mother.

“Okay, who exactly am I?”

“As you have undoubtedly learned by now you’re Queen Sala. The hereditary advisor for the people of Islana, whom everyone turns to when needed. It’s the title given to the first born female of the current queen. You assumed the position when two conditions were met. The first when you turned twenty-six.”

“Which I did last month. Why that age? Is there a significance to the number?”

“If everything had gone as originally planned, I’ll get to what I mean shortly, at twenty you would have become an adult. During the next six years the future queen would have traveled the land meeting and talking the people. It’s a time of enlightenment for the her.”

“So, what does that mean for me?”

“I’m not sure as its never happened. Here I can only surmise, you’ll need to learn in days what took me the prescribed time.”

Sallie Ann slumped back in her chair and worried her bottom lip with her teeth.

“Well, if it has to be, then so be it. Now, what’s the other stipulation?”

“As the other had to do with your head, this one is for your heart. Without both you won’t guide with reason. It’s that you meet your one true love.”

Astonished on hearing the requirement, which she feels has had Sallie Ann sat forward, reversing her frown into a smile.“ I wondered about the nearly instant attraction between myself and Aravan. So, who’s the queen I’m replacing and why?”

“That would be me,” Alice said calmly.

Sallie Ann shot her a look of wonderment on learning she’d been the queen. She now understood why all the subtle training on how to treat people she’d received over the course of her life.

“But you’re so young and health Mom. I don’t understand?”

“It’s been like this for thousands of years. Somehow it was determined women made better leaders than men so you’ll find them in many positions of leadership.”

“On the several times I’ve been to Islana I noticed there were women on the Village Elder council. Also, in at least one case a woman was the metalworker,” Sallie Ann said.
