Tuesday Tales

This week we had a choice of either “camera” or “noisy”. I chose the first as it fits into my WIP, Rodeo Queen.

As usual please forgive any mistakes or errors you might find.

With John mooning over Shay Jessica knew she’d be safe but it was George she was more concerned with. How to protect him while still accomplishing the task at hand?

She then realized she’d answered her own question. They planned to put video surveillance cameras at the fairground so why not here. The only problem, would he go for it.

“Dad, as I told you the Justin Grey is supposed to be dead but now we know he’s not. Until we now anything different we’re going to go with Shay’s suggestion that he could be here for a terrorist act.”

“From the little I’ve seen of how your people work I don’t think I can be much help,” George said, taking a seat at the kitchen table.

“Today and tomorrow yes. What I want to do is set up cameras surrounding the house. This way we can monitor anyone coming and going. I’d also like to set up a few in the barn and pastures.”

She watched him get up, go over to the stove and work on the chili. This was something she remembered growing up, he do something with his hand while thinking through a problem. In the past it usually had something to do with the ranch, now more along the lines of life and death.

When she saw John want to say something she gave him a slight shake of her head silencing him.

After several minutes of uncomfortable silence Jessica knew by the way his shoulders relaxed he’d come up with his answer.

“All right, but I’ve got a question,” he said before Jessica noticed him pour in his secret chili mix.

“Let me guess, what about the night time?” She didn’t wait for him to respond before continuing. “The cameras have dual optics, one for daytime and infrared for night.”

“Makes sense. Go for it.”

“Thanks Dad.” Jessica started to get up so she could call Toby and Martina about the need for more cameras when she saw George spin on his heel, a snarl on his lips.

“After you finish with the spuds.”

She knew from his tone he meant what he said, or she’d probably not eat. That was just his way.

LOL. Relationships between father and daughter never change, do they? I liked this…the way she could read him, and still knew when not to mess with him, even as an adult. Can’t wait to see more.

I love how you are showing a different side of Jessica. The relationship between a father and daughter usually tells a lot about the character. I also like how you incorporated the word prompt camera into your story.

  3. This is another I have to find out more about.. I need to know what’s going on. A good excerpt..x

    Wonderful excerpt!

I love the father/daughter relationship – especially the end where, even if it’s life or death, she’ll finish her chores first. Great job!

I agree with the father daughter comment, and that George made sure she stayed at the table long enogh to eat and she knew what he was doing too.
