Tuesday Tales

Word prompt – sexy

“With everything that’s happened, getting the new shipment and Mr. Boris calling, there’s two people we still haven’t heard from. Ronny, John what did you find out when you politely asked Michaud to see the box again?” Jessica asked before taking a bite of her grilled brie and baguette sandwich.

“Nothing and we damn near tore that thing apart.”

“Yeah, sorry but it looks like a dead end. Maybe something else will come alone to help us locate Boris,” Ronny finished.

“No kidding. Something tells me I might have to take him up on his offer. At least going in I’ll know I can’t trust the bastard.”

Jessica knew if she did take Mr. Boris up on his offer it would add an extra danger to the mission. Something she tried to avoid doing as it was usually her that wasn’t at the greatest risk but those who worked with her. They’d be the one who would have to come in and save her ass.

Her biggest question to herself was, how far can I trust him. Not far was the only answer she got. Putting it aside she decided to enjoy the lunch Collette had made. Which was one of the woman’s greatest mysteries, how did she know when the team needed comfort food. It was like she had a seventh sense which told her.

Glancing over to her cook slash housekeeper slash mother to her and the team she watched as the woman devoured the sandwich.

Frustrated at not figuring out the answer she asked, “Collette, why is it when we get frustrated about something you always know to make a meal that will relax us, which puts us in the right frame of mind to solve the problem?”

“Jessica my little one, it’s really easy. When you pace I can hear it and know you are anxious about something so this simple peasant food is what you need. Not the fancy meals I normally create.”

“Yeah, well do you have some left for a starving man,” Toby announced, walking into the kitchen. He then turned to his wife, “Hey sexy, and no I’m not AWOL but released, legit this time.”

The words were barely past his lips before Jessica watched Martina bound out of her chair, knocking it over in the process, and rushed to him.

While everyone, save Collette who was heating more cream of tomato soup and grilling a baguette and brie sandwich, welcomed Toby home Jessica waited, wondering if he really was home for real. With his presence back added a new dimension along with a different frame of mind to the team. One with a uniquely confusing logic which tended, at times, to be right.

Finally, she stepped up gave him a kiss on the cheek then guided him to his usual, Collette ordered seat. Across and down the table from his wife as they tended to not be able to keep their hands off each other.

I’m wondering with Toby returning home what he is going to give to the team, or will he cause some disruption.

Love your use of food in this scene and the heat between Toby and his wife. Implied nicely. Well done. I’m loving this story. The heroine is a great character.
